August 28 Blue Plaque TrailFor our final evening walk of Summer 2008, Paul and Pam lead a group of about 16 group members on the Blue Plaque Trail.
We were lucky, although it was dull the rain held off and we had an interesting tour of some of Stockport's historic landmarks before finishing the evening with a drink in the Little Jack Horner public house.
Particular thanks to Pam for keeping us moving round the trail, otherwise we might still be standing under the railway viaduct (our first stop)!

August 19 Beyond South Head - Sunday 17th August 2008Starting from The Wash, 12 of us set off for a long walk that took in Rushop
Edge and Jacob's Ladder. We were rewarded with quite favourable weather conditions and good views, especially from our lunch stop overlooking the Edale valley. It was here that primitive man(see photo) could be observed scavaging for berries. We bumped into Bob Whitall on his way back from the Nags Head, at the top of Jacob's ladder. Rather longer than intended we had clocked up some 14 or 15 miles by the time we limped into the car park at 6 pm, but all agreed that it had been a good walk that had taken in some unfamiliar terrain. Cheers, John. August 11 Shropshire camping Weekend August 2008A great weekend had by all at Bishop Castle. 15 campers and 2 in the bunkhouse on the camp site. the campers had the best views up on the hillside loking across the shropshire hills. On the Saturday the main group went for a walk heading towards Cronk hill. Half way round we started looking for a Geo cach, which we found. (www.geocaching.com) for more details. The day was perfect with clear blue sky. When we got back we headed down to Bishop Castle to buy the food for the BBQ and to try a local drink on the way back. The BBQ went well with all the food being eaten, with couple of rain showers as well. The rest of the evening was spent in the 3 Tuns. Next day everyone did different things. The main walk was over the Long Mynd about 8 miles in total. With another geo cach find. Each year the numbers increase with the camping and maybe we could have 20+ next year. |
