Sue Hudsons walk - delegated to Pete!! Again!!

    Pym's Chair and Windgather Rocks

Sunday's walk saw us experience four seasons in one day. Starting from Pym Chair, named after a  highwayman or local preacher we headed by a good path  to Windgather Rocks, a gritstone crag on the border of  Derbyshire and Cheshire. No sign of  our trainee climbers from the Monday group practising the rudiments of rock climbing. From here we headed to Errwood Hall in the Goyt Valley  where the prevailing rain forced us to abandon the planned ascent of Shining Tor and head back for the cars. We ended the day with  a welcome drink in The  Swan, Kettleshulme , a fifteenth century  coaching house.   Our walks secretary Mrs  Joan Hadfield summed the day up with the following comment::'Pete it was a good walk. I KNOW IT WAS  VERY WINDY AND WE HAD SOME  SNOW but it was good. '  Joan

    Scott's Sunday Walk

A fabulous day enabled us to appreciate the late autumn colours on Scott's
walk. This local, though largely unfamiliar route took us from Broadbottom
through the woods and mud to Werneth Low and the war memorial for lunch
where we were joined by Geoff and Sue. Thence via more mud to Mottram and
finally via waterlogged fields and even more mud back to broadbottom. We
concluded this "Hippopotamus" trail with a pleasant pint at the pub.It was
good to welcome Dianna for her first walk with us. Our thanks to Scott for
organising the walk and for his considerate leadership.A thoroughly
    enjoyable day !Publish entry

    'Italian Border Route'

Wednesday night saw Martin Banfield and his wife Sue giving  a talk on their 2 month 500 mile trek this summer. Treking along the French and Italian Border. Lovely talk and great  photos were shown.  All I can say is follow the different links about the walk. A talk no one should have missed.

    Geocach Walk .The Hard Way

Well I did say it was across open access land and it would not be easy going. So eight of the elite Stockport walkersNerd came out in force. The overnight heavy rain has push the walk to the next hard level.  We had up to six to find using maps and gps. The first two we could not find. One could have been near the river and the second was on a very steep slop and the wet ground was unstable. The third we cross the moorland  with the white hares racing in front of us. The cach we found and we then sat down to have lunch in our very cosy cave. With the forcast of heavy rain due about 3.00pm and the wind was strong we went looking for one more with a easy escape route if needed. Which in the end we had to use because of the river crossing and high level of water. Plus no safe path. So the elite group had a easy stroll up and over the moor to drop down to the cars on the Snake pass road. Then the rain came but a little late and we just got back at the right time.  All in all I think every enjoyed Open-mouthedthe walk. Little different with no route set, but I never saw a sad faceBaring teeth or no cross wordsTongue out. Some did look  a little wet but you must be careful near water.

So thanks for coming on the walkOpen-mouthed

    City Arms Pub Night

Friday night took us down to Manchester for the pub night. Manchester was busy due to the Christmas light switch on and so the pub was busy.  But soon after some glare at some people they moved out of the pub and we got our seats for the rest of the night. The 12 of enjoy a good chin wag over the hand pulled pints of beer.. Some of the chat was about Christmas and parties  and Christmas markets with mulled wine and mulled wine. Roasted pig and German beer. But that will come soonOpen-mouthed
